China Air Task Force was the interim air force between the AVG American Volunteer Group Flying Tigers and the 14th AAF. The China Air Task Force was put in place upon the disbandment of the AVG on July 4, 1942 with Brig. Gen. Claire Chennault in Command. The CATF flew as part of the 10th Air Force. The 14th Army Air Force was created March 10, 1943, and it absorbed the CATF. The China Air Task Force, who had succeeded the AVG "Flying Tigers", consisted of the 23rd Fighter Group with four squadrons, the 74th, 75th, 76th, and 16th Fighter Squadrons, plus the 11th Bombardment Squadron. In the 9 months of its existence, the CATF was credited with shooting down 149 Japanese planes, plus 85 probables, with a loss of only 16 P-40s. It flew 65 bombing missions against Japanese targets in China, Burma and Indochina, dropping 311 tons of bombs and losing only one B-25 bomber.

a.k.a. Mosquito Boats.
The early war Walt Disney designed version of the insignia for Motor Torpedo Boats. Several variations exist. Most common is the mosquito carrying torpedo on black back ground in white circle. Most patches are felt. This insignia was worn by all personnel on their dress tunics. There are individual unit insignia similar to AAF squadrons, but the patch shown is the universal insignia for all. The later ones had the torpedo with a wake with "MTB" above the torpedo on them, same color, size and shape. There would also be a summer white version; black thread on white background.
